Welcome to Term 2
It is wonderful to get to know the children of Room 34. They are all well settled and are a
great bunch of kids. I look forward to working with them for the rest of the year and seeing
progress with their learning. It has been wonderful meeting some of the students’
whānau as well.
Thank you for the warm welcome too.

As I am quite passionate about Maths, this will be the first subject I will talk about.
We will be covering multiplication and division as part of number sense and will go on to
Geometry and Measurement in week 7 of Term 2. There will be a few Maths assessments
for the children to complete to see where they are with their learning and their next
learning steps.

Our Inquiry unit for the term is Kaitiakitanga (guardianship and protection). We will be
looking at human impact on our environment and form a question to inquire into what
we can do to make a difference to living things and their survival.

In Reading we are working on summarising what we have read by looking at key words,
facts and phrases. The students should be getting home a book Monday to Thursday,
if they have brought in a bookbag and returned their last book.
Please note that they may bring home the same book if book is being worked on over a few days.

In Writing we are focussing on Narratives, (Myths and Legends) and Descriptive Writing.
Homework will continue as last term, being given on Fridays and merked on Fridays too.
Thank you everyone once again for your support.
